Long term though, resources like this need to find ways to be self-sufficient. Many funding agencies are willing to help develop a resource but tend to bail out when it comes to long term support. As a recent <a href="http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v462/n7271/full/462252a.html" rel="nofollow">Nature article pointed out,</a> useful resources are having a tough time staying open once the initial money dries up, and this is bad for the scientific community.
