For more than five years, since founding the Scholarly Kitchen, I’ve been the volunteer Editor-in-Chief of this blog. Over that time, the Scholarly Kitchen has become known as a hub of provocative and insightful commentary and reporting on STM publishing news and trends.

Last Friday, I began my one-year term as the President of the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP), whereupon I resigned my position as Editor-in-Chief of the Scholarly Kitchen. I will hand the reins over to David Crotty, who will take the title of Executive Editor. I will continue to blog on occasion.

The change is being made to ensure I can focus on my term as President of SSP. The organization is growing, and has the opportunities and challenges any vibrant group faces as it grows. SSP is an amazing organization with incredible volunteers, and I will do my best in the coming year.

I am happy to turn the keys over to David, whose wisdom, editing style, and industry knowledge are incomparable. He will bring another wave of innovations to the Kitchen, I am sure. I look forward to seeing what he has in store for this important voice and brand.

The past five years have been incredible. The Chefs have advanced many of the discussions in academic publishing and librarianship by tackling thorny issues, doing original research, investigating troubling questions, and cultivating one of the finest comment zones in the blogosphere. I’m very proud to have been involved, and I look forward to supporting the Kitchen going forward. As part of this, in my role as President, I’ll be helping to ensure the brand and potential are both fully realized. The Kitchen is a strong asset for SSP, and it can do even more and go even further.

From my perspective, I’m proud of what we’ve created in the Kitchen so far, and look forward to serving as the President of SSP as we take the Scholarly Kitchen brand, blog, podcast, and talent forward into the future. Thanks to the Chefs for a great time, and I’m happy to become just another cook in the Kitchen.
