Like everything else this year (how can one year seem so long?), Halloween is going to be different than anything we’ve seen before. While others are inventing clever candy chutes, I’m personally recommending staying home, putting on the costume of your choice, and listening to songs about ghosts. For the last week or so, I’ve had Robyn Hitchcock’s gorgeous version of The Psychedelic Furs song “The Ghost In You” stuck in my head, so I figured I’d get it stuck in your head as well. Stay safe.

14 Thoughts on "Halloween’s Greetings"

Superchunk released a pretty rockin single this morning that I think we should all add to our Halloween playlists. There’s a Ghost

So we’re sharing ghost songs today then? Here’s a friendly one from the Eels –

Dave, you may be on the hook after this to publish a Ghostly Playlist!

Thanks for posting the Robyn Hitchcock video. I’m a longtime fan of his, and I once went to catch his show at the Crocodile in Seattle (Viva Seatac!) on a blustery weeknight in 2000 or so. The place was practically empty. During his set, I wandered to the bar at the back of the room to order a drink, and I struck up a conversation with one of the only other show-goers that evening, who happened to be David Byrne. It was kind of a neat night.

I’m basically offended that I hadn’t heard this story before.

If it’s gorgeous songs about ghosts, how about virtually everything the late, great Jason Molina ever wrote, including his masterpiece – the album ‘Ghost Tropic’ – and this little ditty…

What’s SCARY is how quickly time passes. This song takes me back to my undergraduate days at Mean Mr. Mustard’s in Columbus, Ohio. Thank you for the pang of nostalgia.
