The 2022 meeting theme is Building a More Connected Scholarly Community. The last 19+ months have been a contradiction, creating feelings of disconnection and even isolation, but also creating opportunities to bond in ways we never thought of before. How can we take the strengths we already possessed, fold in lessons learned during the pandemic, and aim for an even stronger, broader, and more connected community? We are looking forward to receiving proposals for meeting content that speaks to the overall theme, but we also welcome creative, non-thematic submissions. No matter the specific subject, all submissions should describe how the proposed session will engage SSP’s audience with vital information, challenge our ways of thinking, and involve a diverse set of speakers across subject areas.

We are currently working toward an in-person SSP Annual Meeting in 2022 and are very much looking forward to connecting with everyone on-site in Chicago. While there may be some virtual components offered, please keep the primary focus of in-person learning in mind when planning your session for submission. In line with current expectations for the meeting, speakers should plan on attending in person. That said, the health and safety of our attendees is a prime concern, and we will of course monitor and be ready to modify plans as needed.

We encourage anyone who is involved in publishing or scholarly communication in any capacity to submit a proposal. The SSP Annual Meeting has a very wide scope, including all aspects of book and journal publishing from organizations of all types, perspectives from libraries and academia and those who serve them, discussion of fields from medicine to humanities, and a focus on sharing new knowledge.

When working on your submissions (and feel free to submit multiple proposals!), please consider these descriptions:

  • Educational Sessions
Educational Sessions are designed for multiple speakers to present a specific topic that will benefit SSP attendees. Successful proposals will include concrete plans for interactivity, the inclusion of new voices, a diverse panel (with respect to gender, race, background, organization type, subject area), and clear learning objectives for the audience. Educational session time slots will likely vary in length from 60 to 90 minutes. Educational session proposals are being accepted through November 19, 2021.
  • Posters
Poster presentations will provide an opportunity for information to be displayed and available to all attendees, and for poster authors to be able to discuss their poster’s content with interested parties. Attendees will vote for their favorite posters in several categories. Poster proposals are being accepted through January 28, 2022.
  • 5-minute Previews Sessions
These brief, back-to-back presentations showcase new products, platforms, projects, and/or content from people and organizations across the scholarly communications community. Attendees vote for their favorite innovation. Previews Session proposals are being accepted through February 4, 2022.

Detailed submission guidelines may be found here. If you have any questions, please send them to tracy.mitchell@conferencedirect.com.

We are grateful to Ex Ordo for their sponsorship of SSP’s proposal submission system! Visit our 44th Annual Meeting site for submission guidelines as well for more information on Poster and Preview Session submissions.

PLEASE NOTE: Draft submissions without substantive content that are not completed within 24 hours may be automatically removed by the system. We strongly recommend that you include a preliminary abstract within your draft submissions to prevent this.

We look forward to receiving your proposals!
