PD Dr. Lutz Bornmann works as habilitated sociologist of science in the Administrative Headquarters of the Max Planck Society and teaches at the Department of Sociology at the LMU Munich. After a doctoral position at the International Center for Higher Education Research (INCHER) in Kassel until 2003, he had a postdoctoral position at the Professorship for Social Psychology and Research on Higher Education at the ETH Zurich until 2010. He is active in its quantitative research evaluation services and makes research in the area of research evaluation, peer review, bibliometrics, and altmetrics. For his outstanding contributions to the fields of quantitative studies of science over many years, he received the Derek de Solla Price Memorial Medal in 2019. It is the highest award in these fields provided by the International Society for Scientometrics and Informetrics (ISSI).
