Off for Memorial Day, Let Barbecue Season Begin!

We are taking a long weekend to celebrate the US Memorial Day Holiday and will return with a new post on Tuesday (yes, a Mental Health Awareness Mondays post on a Tuesday, but such is the calendar in May). Memorial Day marks the unofficial beginning of summer, which around here means it’s time to start to barbecue. A semantic lesson for those unaware:

Grilling: Cooking over direct heat, usually “fast and hot”
Barbecuing: Cooking over indirect heat, usually “slow and low”

With that in mind, I’ll leave it to Wendy Rene and the inimitable Southern Culture on the Skids to explain the essentials of summer menu planning. For the record, I’m partial to sauce from Dreamland in Tuscaloosa, and the Magnolia Bakery’s Banana Pudding recipe. See you next week.
