Guest Post — Shaping a Sustainable Future for Academic Publishing: Our Journey so Far
Today’s guest post demonstrates how publishers can reduce their carbon footprint and be leaders in environmental sustainability.
Liz Martin is Sustainability Lead for IOP Publishing. She has a BSc (Hons) in Physics from the University of Surrey and joined IOP Publishing in 1995 as a Desk Editor. While serving as Head of Content & Production, she oversaw the UK and US production teams responsible for journals, books, conference proceedings, and the content management and discovery team.
Since 2020, Liz has led IOP Publishing’s sustainability program, focusing on reducing carbon emissions and IOP Publishing’s progress toward Net Zero, ensuring a responsible supply chain, and supporting colleagues to make environmentally conscious decisions in their day-to-day activities.
She is a member of the STM Social Responsibility Committee and the Publishers Association Sustainability Taskforce, and represents IOP Publishing in DIMPACT, a collaborative initiative helping media and publishing organizations better understand and reduce their digital carbon footprint.
