In the past we’ve looked at some gorgeous libraries, but this one is a little different. The National Audiovisual Conservation Center, part of the Library of Congress, is housed in a former nuclear bunker (one that used to house $4B in cash for use after the apocalypse). Film preservation is the purpose of the library, and it houses everything from “Casablanca” to the works of Adam Sandler. Much of the collection is made up of nitrate film reels, basically rolls of gunpowder, which require special vaults.
