Libraries take many forms, whether they are located in a nuclear bunker or a salt mine, or their collection is made up of sound recordings, obsolete technologies, or colors. Today we celebrate the sanitation workers of Ankara, who have taken it upon themselves to launch a public library from the collection of books they’ve obtained from their work as garbage collectors. Even better, they plan to spread the joy of reading more broadly through Turkey, not via camel as is the case in rural Pakistan, but instead through a repurposed garbage truck.
